      Just put in all my miles dating back to end of April, and I see I still have 21.2 more miles to go to finish atop Katahdin - can I get it done by 11:59 PM tomorrow?       I ran Baltimore Women's Classic 5K this morning. It is the 2nd oldest women's only race in the country. Every woman is given a rose 🌹 at the finish line. I saw some of the Tall Ships along the course. I initially wanted to stay to see the Blue Angels but it was drizzly and overcast so I headed home. - Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD, USA

      The new Acadia to Katahdin Virtual Race is open for registration - and you can backdate miles to July 1! https://acadia.racery.com/r... (Thanks for your patience as I had some technical difficulties that wiped out some of the new virtual race map I was working on, so I needed to recreate it.) To mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of this country, the route takes you along Boston's Freedom Trail; Philadelphia's Independence Hall; much of the Marine Corps Marathon route that takes you along the National Mall and by the Washington Monument (marking its 150th this year). In addition, virtually race through Great Smoky Mountains National Park (marking its 100th); Joshua Tree National Park (marking its 90th); Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument (marking its 10th); and finish up on the Millinocket Marathon & Half course and a climb up Katahdin. While there are no optional medals, magnets or coasters for this virtual race - technical difficulties, but perhaps they'll be back for the next race - there is a new option to make donations to charity, whether Friends of Acadia, Friends of Millinocket Memorial Library or @Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters. Thanks to @MA.ME.MD.Walker for recommending Boston or Philly to mark the 250th, @SparkyMoose for recommending the Freedom Trail, and @DSea and @Alkaloz54 for recommending the addition of tennis and pickleball in the activity conversion dropdown menu. Also new: Weightlifting as an activity in the dropdown.

      Hi @jackrabbit67 - got a reply to my hotline email just now, and it was a Microsoft / hotmail issue. Racery has emailed Microsoft about that, and they tell me it should be resolved sometime today. Always remember to tag me by typing @AOMM whether in this messageboard or in a Racery log. You commented earlier today in one of my earlier logs, and that automatically got routed to my email, which I tend to check more frequently. Consider @AOMM as your "hotline"! Still working on getting an answer from Racery about @MA.ME.MD.Walker 's issue, as that's not related to hotmail / Microsoft.
      @AOMM Finally got a racery email late this afternoon. It is probably also a Microsoft issue for me as well. Live.com is a Microsoft address.
      @MA.ME.MD.Walker - yes, it was a Microsoft issue (didn't know live.com was also Microsoft until you and Racery let me know). Racery tells me it seems to be a recurring Microsoft issue, despite Racery's best efforts. One suggestion they had: use a non-Microsoft email, like gmail, to sign up for future virtual races, and then automatically forward gmail to your Microsoft email so you are sure to get Racery alerts. But it's kind of complicated, and probably presents technical difficulties of a different kind.
      @AOMM If I sign up with my Gmail account the next time is there a way I can continue with the streak. I know one of the times I accidentally signed up with the Gmail account and you had to do something to reverse it so that the streak would continue. I would be fine just seeing the messages in my Gmail.
      @MA.ME.MD.Walker - Good question. I think there should be a way to continue the streak even with a different email. I'll verify it with Racery before the next virtual race, and let you know.

      I forwarded the emailed error message to Racery support and they have an issue with attached pics that they are working on. Tried again without a pic and it posted.
      Thanks for emailing Racery directly on that technical glitch @TomZot - I'll also email them directly on that, and also @MA.ME.MD.Walker and @jackrabbit67 technical difficulties. Always good idea to tag me as I don't always check the Messageboard or the Racery log every day. I have a "hotline" email to racery, so hopefully the couple of technical difficulties will be resolved soon.
      In case Racery hadn't mentioned, just got a reply, @TomZot that there was a 6-hour window where Racery was working on an update. That's when photos were temporarily unable to be loaded. Everything should be back to normal now.

    Virtually race from the top of Cadillac and over the rest of the 26 peaks of Acadia National Park. Jump south to Fort McHenry and the Star-Spangled Banner historic trails in Maryland, then across the Atlantic to Italy and site of the 2026 Winter Olympics, for a virtual marathon starting and ending at the Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium.

    Next, head to Japan for a marathon-distance tour of Nara Park, which is known for its World Heritage Sites and sika deer.

    Cross the Pacific to another World Heritage Site, Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, and also to Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve in Colorado.

    Finally, come on back to Maine, virtually run the Millinocket Marathon & Half, and climb the 3 peaks of Baxter State Park that make the cut of the AMC's New England Four Thousand Footer list. Finish atop Katahdin, the state's highest peak.

    How to participate:

    Wherever you are in the world, you can virtually run, hike or walk and log your miles. Plus there is a dropdown calculator that allows you to convert minutes spent bicycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, doing calisthenics and other activities to a running-walking mileage equivalent.

    Watch your avatar move along on a map from Acadia to Katahdin, criss-crossing the map, jumping from segment to segment. Get pop-up Google Street Views where available as you land on spots along the virtual race map. Click on red pindrops near where you land on the map to find out fun facts. Invite family and friends to join no matter where they are - a perfect way to keep up and explore America's parks, virtually.

    You have until 11:59 PM EST on June 30, 2026, to complete the segments. You can backdate miles to January 1, 2026, but log them one day at a time chronologically to get the maximum virtual race experience.

    New option to put in your hometown upon registration, so that your avatar starts off in your state of residence before you log your first miles in Acadia. Also new: The option to synch with Strava, but remember to also log your comments directly in Racery so that the non-Strava virtual racers can keep up with what you're up to.

    To ensure you cross the finish line and to take into account any mileage rounding issues, be sure to log a few extra tenths of a mile. And if you opted in for special finisher's medal, coasters or magnets, they will be mailed upon conclusion of the race.

    Everyone is a winner, with medals, coasters and magnets mailed soon after June 30, whether you completed the segments by then or not. Mileage from this race and future races will count toward cumulative totals, allowing you to reach special milestones and recognition.     At least 5% of gross proceeds from the race go to help support Acadia National Park via the nonprofit Friends of Acadia, Millinocket via the nonprofit Millinocket Memorial Library, and National Parks Traveler.

    We've got racers all over the globe! To keep everyone on the same page, we've come up with some handy guidelines:

    • We rely on the honor system... you don't have to use a device to prove your miles -- a good map suffices.

    • Please only backdate mileage to the start of this race, or January 1, 2026.

    • No step counting, please use intentional miles.

    • Walking or running miles are the default activity, with other activities like bicycling in the activity dropdown menu! (NOTE: miles on a racer’s personal log are for all races they are in, over all sports)

    • Please attribute your mileage to the appropriate day -- don’t combine mileage from multiple days.

    • Miles submitted after the race ends will not count toward race leaderboards.
