MA.ME.MD.Walker 17h ago0.9 miles0.91 miles of running/Walking = 0.91 milesWalked to a meeting for an environmental group I am involved with. Towards the end of the meeting I struck up a conversation with this guy who works at St John's College in Annapolis MD. I told him my sister works at St John's College in Santa Fe, NM . He asked her name and it turns out he has a meeting with her on Monday. Such a small world.

- From: Acadia
- To: Katahdin
- Start date: January 1, 2023
- End date: June 30, 2023
- 0:00
- 23:59
- Route distance: 261.5 miles
- Total logged: 5,060.1 miles
Virtually race from the top of Cadillac and over the rest of the 26 peaks of Acadia National Park, then head north to the top of Katahdin in Baxter State Park.
And if that's not challenging enough, head west, virtual racer, and add on a marathon-length distance in Bryce Canyon National Park, before completing a second marathon distance up and over the 3 peaks of Baxter that are on the list of the Appalachian Mountain Club's New England Four Thoursand Footer list, ending atop Katahdin again.
Earn a customized medal (or two or more) - your choice of 3 medals, to be paired with one of 11 ribbon options. Plus you have the option to add a lobster patch or moose patch - or both!
See images of medal and ribbon options at the top of the page here. Or scroll down below to see a small image of some of the options.
Help raise funds for Acadia National Park and Millinocket, the gateway to Baxter State Park, home to Katahdin.
Start atop Cadillac, the first place to see the sun rise in the USA between Oct. 7 and March 6, and virtually climb all 26 peaks of Acadia on Mount Desert Island.
Then make a beeline straight north to Katahdin to summit Maine's highest mountain for the first time in this virtual race.
Then two more marathon-length distances - jump west to Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah's red rock country, before heading for the final 26.2-mile stretch up the 3 Baxter peaks on the AMC's New England Four Thousand Footer list and ending the 261.5-mile virtual race course atop Katahdin a second and final time.
(This virtual race is not officially affiliated with any real-life races other than having previously been the virtual edition of the Maine Sea to Summit Series co-sponsored by acadiaonmymind.com and runmdi.org. And it is not officially affiliated with any national parks, other than helping to support Friends of Acadia, a partner of Acadia National Park.)
Wherever you are in the world, you can participate virtually by running or walking and logging your miles. Plus there is a dropdown calculator that allows you to convert minutes spent bicycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, doing calisthenics and other activities to a running-walking mileage equivalent.
Watch your avatar move along on a map from Acadia to Katahdin, criss-crossing the country, jumping from segment to segment. Get pop-up Google Street Views where available as you land on spots along the virtual race map. Invite family and friends to join no matter where they are - a perfect way to keep up in these still-pandemic times.
You until 11:59 PM EST on June 30, 2023, to complete the segments. You can backdate miles to January 1, 2023, but log them one day at a time chronologically to get the maximum virtual race experience.
To ensure you cross the finish line and to take into account any mileage rounding issues, be sure to log a few extra tenths of a mile. And if you opted in for special finisher's medal(s), they will be mailed upon conclusion of the race.
Everyone is a winner, with final medals mailed soon after June 30, whether you completed the segments by then or not. Mileage from this race and future races will count toward cumulative totals, allowing you to reach special milestones and recognition. Details of the Acadia to Katahdin Virtual Racing Hall of Fame to be announced at acadiaonmymind.com/virtual-races
At least 5% of gross proceeds from the race go to help support Acadia National Park via the nonprofit Friends of Acadia, and Millinocket via the nonprofit Millinocket Memorial Library.
We've got racers all over the globe! To keep everyone on the same page, we've come up with some handy guidelines:

We've got racers all over the globe! To keep everyone on the same page, we've come up with some handy guidelines:
- We rely on the honor system... you don't have to use a device to prove your miles -- a good map suffices.
- Please only backdate mileage to the start of this race, or Jan. 1, 2023.
- No step counting, please use intentional miles.
- Walking or running miles are the default activity, with other activities like bicycling in the activity dropdown menu! (NOTE: miles on a racer’s personal log are for all races they are in, over all sports)
- Please attribute your mileage to the appropriate day -- don’t combine mileage from multiple days.
- Miles submitted after the race ends will not count toward race leaderboards.
